Methodology
Counts come from BookRetreats’ public listing list, tallied on 16 October 2026. Teacher trainings are left out, including any listing whose address contains “training”, “ttc”, “100-hour”, “200-hour”, “300-hour”, or “certification”. Plant-medicine retreats are left out too. So are listings that advertise a parasite cleanse, a colonic, a liver flush, heavy-metal detox, or a cure. That last filter dropped 10 listings from this count.
We do not copy each retreat’s price, dates, or guest rating. BookRetreats asks that specific prices not be shown as if they were current, and their terms forbid scraping listing pages. Where a page mentions a typical cost, it is a rounded average from BookRetreats pricing calculator / State of Retreats 2026, for all retreat types, not one yoga retreat.
Length and place are read from the public listing address. Style words such as surf, women, or detox are counted only when they appear in that address, so they undercount.
Weather is the average daily high and the average number of days with at least 1 mm of rain, for 2015–2024, from Open-Meteo. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com, CC BY 4.0. “Months to look at first” are the three months with the fewest rainy days among those whose average high is between 24°C and 32°C. If fewer than three months fall in that band, we name the three driest months instead.
A place is published once the count reaches 8 retreats. Groups on a page are a way to browse. They are not a quality ranking, and a commission does not change which retreats are included.
Retreat links go to BookRetreats. On destination pages, GetYourGuide links are searches for classes and tours. Viator and SafetyWing are not switched on. Booking links pass through `/go/<slug>`.
